I have to admit I'm a little nosy. But that particular personality trait served me very well as a journalist. I am also kind and diplomatic, so I've learned the art of probing gently when needed, too. But one of the biggest things I've learned is how connected people get when they have news to share and how excited they feel when they learn something new. Seeing that personal chemistry bubble to the surface makes me want to help them celebrate and share their news, when appropriate. It's part of keeping people connected and doing our part for the world. When I was younger, I belonged to groups like The Leaders Club and the Girls Athletic Association. As an adult, I've remained a joiner. I've been a PTA President, Executive Vice President of the Long Island Center for Business & Professional Women (which boasted close to 500 members), I chaired the Suffolk SAFE KIDS Coalition, I became the Education Coordinator for a BNI Chapter in Melbourne, and I've also had the pleasure of becoming active with the Women's Business Center at Florida Institute of Technology. I get out there and speak when invited by professional and community groups. I meet people, listen to their stories and help broadcast their good news. (That's why it's good to have a friend in PR.) Over the years, I've found that getting involved and doing fun stuff (including work) with people I meet creates many fulfilling moments. Those moments turn into great stories. Sometimes, in news we have to communicate tough stuff, too. It's all part of living. But we definitely celebrate and promote the good news. So check in with us often to see what we and our friends are up to. And send us your releases, too. We'd love to help you share | | Follow Donna on Twitter
